The Dutch Colonial was a popular period style from 1915 to 1935. Common elements include a very steep gambrel roof line and often symmetrical windows with decorated shutters. Customarily there is a prominent second story shed dormer emerging from the front edge of the gambrel roof and a central front door with side lights, and embellished with a formal portico often with side columns or a fan light window. It was a handsome somewhat formal style.
